In this Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, file photo, Rupert Murdoch and Wendi Deng arrive at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles.

Wendi Deng is bringing in the big guns.

Deng has hired the well-known New York attorney William Zabel to represent her in her divorce from Rupert Murdoch, CNBC has learned.

Zabel, a founding partner of Schulte Roth & Zabel, is one of the top trust and estate attorneys in the country, and he's helped settle a lot of high-profile divorces involving wealthy clients such as former General Electric CEO Jack Welch and radio shock-jock Howard Stern.

Deng's side expects this will be an "amicable divorce," sources told CNBC.

Zabel likes to do things quietly without a lot of public motions and litigation. The Murdochs had pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.

Under the terms of the pre-nup, Deng would receive less than $20 million, according to sources familiar with the agreement. Murdoch's wealth is estimated around $11 billion.

(Read more:The world's most expensive divorce settlements)

But her team is looking at three broad areas for negotiation to possibly get more. First is child support and the custody of their two young daughters, Grace and Chloe.

There is also the issue of joint property. The Murdochs owned a co-op in New York at 740 Park Avenue, which is valued at over $90 million. They have the two homes in California, a home in Beijing and property in London. There is also their yacht, the 180-foot boat called Rosehearty. It remains to be seen which properties are held in both of their names.

Another big issue is the trust. This is the family trust that controls News Corp through its voting shares. Murdoch's four children will control the trust after his death, while Chloe and Grace have just an economic interest. Their interest is equal to one-sixth each, which is worth billions.

But what Deng's legal team is looking at is whether the kids' equity is adequately protected, whether there are provisions for dilution and other possible changes in the company, or if Murdoch ever has other children.

A spokesperson for the 44-year-old Deng and the 82-year-old Murdoch did not immediately return calls for comment.

Murdoch filed for divorce from Deng in June after 14 years of marriage. It is his third marriage and her second. There was no reason given in the public divorce filing other than the standard language indicating that the "relationship between husband and wife had broken down irretrievably."

The divorce also came as Murdoch was is in the middle of splitting News Corp. into two separate companies, with one focusing on print media and the other focused on entertainment, television and film.

Shares of potash producers plunge as Russian marketing group ...

Shares of North America?s three main potash producers plunged on Tuesday after the blockbuster announcement that Russian company OAO Uralkali plans to break up one of the two main potash marketing groups to boost its sales. The result is likely to be a sharp drop in global prices as the industry?s oligopoly-like structure is shattered and more supply hits the market.

Potash price war may signal deathknell for BHP Billiton?s US$15-billion mine plan

The break-up of a potash marketing cartel may signal the end of mining giant?s plans to spend billions to expand into production of the crop nutrient. Continue reading.

Shares of Potash Corp of Saskatchewan Inc. plummeted as much as 23% after the announcement, while shares of Mosaic Co. dropped 25%. They pared some of those losses in the afternoon, with Potash Corp. ending the day down 16%, and Mosaic down 17%. Agrium Inc.?s shares fell a more modest 5%, as the company has much lower exposure to potash than its rivals.

Uralkali?s announcement puts an effective end to Belarusian Potash Co. (BPC), the big marketing venture between Russian and Belarusian potash producers. It controls about 40% of global potash exports. The other key marketing group is Canpotex Ltd., a joint venture between the three North American producers.

Investors are betting that Canpotex will find it impossible to maintain its pricing influence following the break-up of its only counterpart and increased supply in the market. Even Uralkali?s chief executive said that prices could fall below US$300 a tonne, according to reports. By comparison, they are a little over US$400 right now.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Joel Jackson called the announcement ?the end of the potash world as we know it.? He believes potash earnings estimates will move ?materially lower? and global price estimates could fall by US$100 a tonne.

?Discipline and price-over-volume leadership in the potash industry seem to have crumbled,? he wrote in a note.

The question is whether other potash producers will follow Uralkali?s lead and produce at or near full capacity to boost market share at the expense of price. Uralkali plans to produce 13 million tonnes in 2014, compared to 10.5 million this year. It decided to end its involvement in BPC after the Belarusian government cancelled BPC?s exclusive right to export potash from the country.

Uralkali has more flexibility than most rivals to operate in a lower-price environment because it has very low costs of US$62 a tonne, according to a company presentation. High-cost operations would have a much tougher time, notably those in Europe.

Canaccord Genuity analyst Keith Carpenter wrote that he had a long-standing concern about over-supply in the potash market, and that the pricing power held by BPC and Canpotex would eventually break down once the companies focused more on market share than pricing.

?This announcement is accelerating that expectation,? he wrote in a note.

Mr. Jackson of BMO noted that the industry could be better off in a volume-over-price environment once the short-term pain subsides. Sales volumes would improve substantially and greenfield projects, such as BHP Billiton Ltd.?s giant Jansen project, could get cancelled. However, he called it a ?very risky? strategy.

UK consumer confidence least bleak since early 2010 - GfK

LONDON (Reuters) - British consumer confidence has jumped in July to its highest in more than three years, a survey showed, in an early sign that the economic recovery is gaining steam in the third quarter.

Market research company GfK said that its monthly consumer confidence index rose to -16 from -21 in June. It was the highest reading since April 2010 and easily beat forecasts in a Reuters poll for -20.

The GfK survey, one of the first economic indicators on the July-September period, chimes with upbeat industry data on retail sales and factory orders over the past month.

It also follows news that Britain's economy expanded 0.6 percent in the second quarter - double the pace of growth in the first three months of the year.

"There is now no doubt that consumer confidence has recovered strongly from the unparalleled trough of the last five years," said Nick Moon, managing director of social research at GfK.

"It is the longer-term changes that mean far more than one single month's figures, and the current trend is definitely upwards," he added.

July's headline reading is well above the average of -23 in the second quarter, feeding hopes that consumers - who account for around two-thirds of all spending in Britain - will boost the economy further in the third quarter.

All but one of the five measures that make up the overall index rose strongly, with consumers' forecasts for their finances and the general economic situation the most optimistic in several years.

The climate for big-ticket purchases worsened, but only very slightly.

Donna Culverwell of GfK said hot and sunny weather during July helped lift consumer morale. Widespread discounts and offers are also likely to have brightened consumers' mood, as shop prices fell in July at their fastest pace since January 2007.

GfK polled about 2,000 people from July 2 to 21 on behalf of the European Commission.

Ecclestone confirms no India in 2014

Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that the Indian Grand Prix won???t feature on the 2014 F1 calendar but will then return the following season.

Ecclestone had suggested that such a move could happen in Hungary and has now confirmed that there will be no indian race on the schedule next year.

Instead, with Ecclestone preferring to run the race earlier in the season, the Indian Grand Prix will then return in 2015 when the current contract in place for five years will continue.

"When we signed the five-year deal with [promoters] Jaypee, we were keen on going to India in the first half and Jaypee wanted it to be in October," he told the IANS news agency. "We gave in at that time, but now it looks we will have the race early 2015.

"It [hosting one race in October 2014 and another in early 2015] was too close. Therefore, after speaking to promoters, we think it is best not to have a race in 2014 and have one in 2015."

Ecclestone???s confirmation is likely to see India join Australia, Bahrain, Malaysia and China in the ???flyaway??? events that come prior to the European leg of the season but also signaled a warning that it couldn???t take its place for granted in future despite his previous comments on India being important to F1.

"The second year is always difficult for the organisers," he said after attendance figures dropped last year. "I hope bigger crowds turn up for the third edition.

"I really want it to continue, but it all depends on a lot of other factors. The sport is expanding its base every year."

Massive explosions rock central Fla. gas plant

TAVARES, Fla. (AP) ? A series of explosions rocked a central Florida propane gas plant and sent "boom after boom after boom" through the neighborhood around it. Eight people were injured, with at least four in critical condition.

John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said early Tuesday there were no fatalities despite massive blasts that ripped through the Blue Rhino propane plant late Monday night. Officials initially scrambled to find more than a dozen employees after the explosions.

"Management is comfortable saying all of those they knew were there tonight have been accounted for," he said.

Tavares Fire Chief Richard Keith said possible causes of the explosion may be either equipment malfunction or possibly human error. Sabotage was not suspected.

One person injured in the explosion was listed in critical condition at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital and three others were listed in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Herrell said some others drove themselves to area hospitals.

Tavares Battalion Commander Eric Wages said five workers walked up to a command center firefighters set up near the plant Monday night with skin hanging off their arms, torso and faces. He said their arms were outstretched and they were in complete shock.

The Blue Rhino plant, which is northwest of Orlando, refilled propane tanks typically used for barbecues and other uses. There were some 53,000 20-gallon tanks at the plant on Monday.

Herrell said a crew of 24 to 26 people was working the overnight shift when the explosions occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Tuesday morning, smoke still billowed from a storage container on the property, which consists of a couple of warehouses next to each other. The parking lot was littered with thousands of blackened 20-gallon propane containers.

Nearby, three 33,000-pound tanks of propane sat untouched. Lake County Battalion Chief Chris Croughwell said the hoses designed to spray water on the large tanks in case of fire, did not go off as planned because they had to be manually activated. "Most sane people don't stick around for an event like this," he added.

Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe said Tuesday that he was surprised to learn the hoses at the plant had to be manually activated. If Blue Rhino reopens the plant, Wolfe said he plans to raise the safety issue. "That way, it's fail safe," Wolfe said. "We're lucky those tanks didn't explode."

Croughwell said firefighters who responded to the initial fire had to wait to enter plant site because conditions were so dangerous. Just as they were finally about to go in, four tractor trailers parked next to the large propane tanks caught fire.

If the large tanks exploded, Croughwell said, "it would have wiped us out."

Video footage on WESH-TV in Orlando showed fires burning through trucks used to transport propane tanks, which were parked at the plant. The fire sent plumes of smoke into the air hours after the blast.

Keith said the explosions shook his house several miles from the plant. "It truly sounded like a car hit our house," he said.

Herrell said about 50 homes were evacuated Monday night but residents were allowed back in about four hours later.

Marni Whitehead, 33, who lives less than a mile from the plant, said she was in bed ready to go to sleep when she heard a loud boom.

She ran outside and saw other neighbors outside and then they saw the explosions.

"We knew right away it was the plant, the propane plant," Whitehead said. "After that, it was just sort of panic."

Whitehead likened the explosions to Fourth of July fireworks. "And it was just boom after boom after boom," she said.

Herrell said officials believe the fire was contained and wouldn't spread to another part of the plant.

According to the Leesburg Daily Commercial, the plant was built in 2004 and employs fewer than 50 people.

California Inmate Dies In Solitary Confinement During Hunger Strike

A man being held in solitary confinement has died at one of the California state prisons where thousands of inmates are refusing food to protest the practice of indefinite solitary confinement. Prison officials are insisting Billy ?Guero? Sell was not part of the hunger strike when he died. Advocates and inmates, however, say that he was not only participating but had requested medical treatment for several days before his death.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation maintain that Sell?s death is being investigated as a suicide, unrelated to the hunger strike. Inmates rejected this explanation, saying a suicide would be ?completely out of character for him.? According to a letter from hunger strikers, several men said, ?No one believes he killed himself.?

The hunger strike began with 30,000 individuals on July 8 and has dwindled to about 1,000 participants in 11 prisons. Prison infirmaries have been swamped with fasting inmates in critical condition.

Prison officials have undercounted hunger strikers by not including inmates who are still drinking electrolytes like Kool-Aid or tea. Additionally, leaders of the movement have been rounded up and put in more severe solitary confinement. Lawyers and relatives of the strikers say they have received multiple letters from different inmates reporting that prisons are blasting their cells with cold air in an attempt to weaken their resolve.

At Pelican Bay, California?s maximum security prison, many inmates are kept in solitary confinement for 10 to 28 years ? even though the psychological trauma of being locked in a windowless room for 23 hours a day begins to kick in after just ten days.. Officials often justify this ?living death,? by using race or political reading materials as evidence the confined inmate may have a ?gang affiliation.? Mentally ill prisoners also make up a substantial proportion of solitary cells in several states. In their third hunger strike since 2011, inmates are calling for an end to solitary confinement, a more humane review process for inmate punishment, as well as access to health care and education.

Leon Washington looking forward to fresh start with Patriots

Leon Washington

Leon Washington

FOXBORO ? Leon Washington is getting a lot of work through the first few days of Patriots training camp.

The veteran return man, who was picked up as a free agent this offseason, has gotten a ton of work as the primary kick returner. Washington, who turns 31 on Aug. 29, hits town with an impressive resume: The former Jet and Seahawk was second among returners with a 29.0 yard average last year with Seattle. In addition, he shares the NFL record with Josh Cribbs with eight career kickoff returns for touchdowns. He also tied an NFL record when he returned two kicks for a touchdown in a game against San Diego in 2010. Washington earned All-Pro honors in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

The 5-foot-8, 203-pound Washington joins a New England team that is looking for some consistency in the return game ? the Patriots averaged just 21.2 yards per kickoff return last season, 25th in the NFL.

Can those special-team skills translate to a new environment?

?Some players, like any other position, can adapt from different schemes,? said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. ?Some players are more suited towards one particular scheme. They read that, in this case, might read the blocking patterns better or more instinctively than a different type of return scheme.

?I think it varies from player to player,? he added. ?Some guys are one way, other guys have more of a style that they?re effective with. If you try to try to change that style, they?re not as effective with it. Other guys are pretty comparable to all of them. You have more flexibility in the schemes that you run. I think it depends on the player.?

Washington initially made his bones on the offensive side of the ball as a third-down back who showed an ability to run with the ball and serve as a pass catcher. In 2007 and 2008, he averaged more than 70 carries and 40 catches a year, and he?s averaged 7.7 yards per catch over the course of his career with 146 career catches and 1,127 receiving yards.

But the last two years with the Seahawks, he transitioned almost exclusively into a special teamer. With New England already fully stocked at running back, it certainly looks like he?ll be working purely as a return man this year. That?s just fine with Washington.

?Ever since I?ve been a rookie, I was always a team player,? Washington said Sunday morning after he and the rest of the team wrapped up their third practice session of the summer. ?That?s been my main focus, and knowing that I can do so many different things well ? run the ball, catch the ball, return kicks, even make tackles some times in my career. That?s the same approach I have here. Just coming in, helping the team out the best way I can.

?Obviously, I?m a competitor and want to be on the football field. I want to be out there and help the team out as much as I can, but not really. We won a bunch of games when I was in Seattle. Being a team player is the most important thing.?

?He?s played back there before but not a lot recently with the Seahawks,? Belichick said when asked about using Washington as a running back. ?We?ll put him in our system, teach him the things that he needs to learn at that position, evaluate him with the other players.?

Washington said Sunday that even as a member of the Jets, he has always been impressed by the way they go about their business in Foxboro.

?Obviously, you watch this organization from afar, and you see how well they do things here. It?s a winning organization. They believe in that. They believe in coming to compete,? Washington said. ?The most important thing that I love they do is that everybody is all about the team. Everybody will do whatever they need to do to help the team win. That?s impressive, watching them from afar.

?Everything the guys do here, it?s all about winning. You hear guys talking in the meeting room, in the weight room. That?s all they talk about. They talk about team. It?s all about us. I love that.?

VIDEO: Highlights of Anniversary Games IAAF Diamond League meet in London

By Rob Harris

Usain Bolt sprinted to a second Diamond League victory inside 24 hours in London on Saturday in what could be his last race in England.

Exactly a year after the start of the 2012 Summer Games, Bolt anchored a Jamaican relay team to victory in the Olympic Stadium at the London leg of the Diamond League - this year also called the Anniversary Games.

The Racers Track Club finished the 4x100 race in 37.74 seconds, a day after Bolt's victory in the individual sprint in the London stadium where he swept three gold medals last year.

"We haven't run a lot of relays together, but just being around each other we can understand each other and know how fast we are personally so it worked out very well," Bolt said.

The 26-year-old Bolt led home teammates Mario Forsythe, Kemar Bailey-Cole and Warren Weir ahead of France and Canada.

"I'm the team leader and I try to keep them focused and give them wisdom," Bolt said.

About 60,000 fans packed into the Olympic Stadium which temporarily reopened to host the Diamond League meet before closing again to be revamped into a multi-sport stadium, which will be used by Premier League team West Ham from the 2016-17 season.

"It is always beautiful and always wonderful in London, I really enjoy it here," Bolt said. "It is just an extremely great stadium and I am happy."

Bolt isn't happy, though, with the country's tax laws.

He only returned to London to compete because the British government agreed to an amnesty that allowed international athletes to compete tax-free at this meet as they did at the Olympics.

Taxes are usually imposed on appearance fees and prize money for nonresident athletes in all sports when in action here.

Bolt said returning here to race "depends on what the tax laws say, if they say it's OK I will be here next year."

A tax exemption is in place for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year, but Bolt is not committing to competing in the Scottish city.

And the government does not appear willing to waive its tax rules whenever it suits Bolt.

"You have to be a little bit careful about this," Sports Minister Hugh Robertson told The Associated Press. "We have a very straight forward modus operandi with the Treasury whereby whenever we need a tax break for a particular event we make the case, they look at it and they have been very good at granting it as they were for Usain Bolt.

"You have to just realise, though, that all these decisions are taken against the backdrop of the national economy and giving and giving tax breaks to wealthy sports stars when the economy is in the state it is at the moment is something that needs careful decision on a case-by-case basis."

Mo Farah also made a winning return to the Olympic Stadium, treating the home crowd to a dominant victory in the 3,000.

The Briton produced a devastating final lap, storming in front with around 500 to go to win in 7 minutes, 36.85 seconds - more than five seconds ahead of Ryan Hill of the United States.

"It's great to be back," said Farah, who won the 5,000 and 10,000 double at the Olympics. "It was a good race and the crowd were great ... I wanted to make them proud."

Other Olympic champions also replicated their success in London.

Sally Pearson won the 100 hurdles in 12.65, around a tenth of a second ahead of Tiffany Porter of Britain.

It was a disappointing day for another Briton, however, as Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill finishing fourth in the race as she returned from injury.

Pearson has been struggling with hamstring problems this season, but looks to be finding her form ahead of the world championships in Moscow.

"Everyone told me to be patient and believe in myself and that's what I've done," she said. "It's three weeks yesterday to my race at the world championships so it's finally coming together. My form is slowly coming back ... there are a lot of parts of the race I can fix."

The 110 hurdles was won by David Oliver, the American who failed to qualify for the Olympics last year.

Olympic champion Aries Merritt clipped a hurdle and went out.

"I'm fine, I think I ran too close to the hurdle and hit it with my trail leg - I was trying to run too fast," the American said. "Next time in Moscow, I won't press as much in order to run well."

In the pole vault, Renaud Lavillenie achieved a world-leading 6.02 meters, but failed three times to overhaul Sergei Bubka's world record of 6.14 that has stood since 1994.

In the shot pot, Valerie Adams was crowned a winner while still in the Olympic Stadium this time by throwing 20.90 meters.

The New Zealander belatedly won Olympic gold after the London event when Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus was disqualified for doping.

(AP) ? Derek Jeter has homered on the first pitch he saw in his return to the New York Yankees' lineup.

Batting with one out in the first, Jeter drove Matt Moore's offering into the stands in right-center field for New York's first home run in 10 games. The long ball was the first by a Yankees right-handed batter since June 25.

The 39-year-old captain was activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

Jeter sustained a Grade 1 right quadriceps strain running out a groundball July 11 in his first game back from breaking his ankle during the opener of the AL championship series last October.

The 13-time All-Star says the whole experience has been frustrating. He says he hopes to play every day for the Yankees, who have lost six of nine.

Myanmar-China gas pipeline goes into operation: Xinhua

BEIJING: Gas has started flowing to energy-hungry China through a pipeline from Myanmar, Beijing's official media reported, in a major project that highlights their economic links even as political ties weaken.

The 793-kilometre (492-mile) pipeline runs from Kyaukpyu on Myanmar's west coast, close to the offshore Shwe gasfields, and across the country.

It enters southwest China at Ruili, near areas where heavy clashes between the rebel Kachin Independence Army and the Myanmar military were reported earlier this year.

As well as diversifying China's sources of fuel, by supplying energy to the vast and economically less developed west it could help Beijing's attempts to promote growth there.

The pipeline has been years in construction and went into operation on Sunday at a ceremony in Mandalay, the official Xinhua news agency reported. "When torches flamed in the sky.... a storm of applause and cheers broke out," it said.

In an editorial on Monday the Global Times newspaper, affiliated with the ruling Communist Party, said: "This is another breakthrough in China's strategy of energy diversification and has obvious significance in reducing China's dependence on the Strait of Malacca for the import of oil and natural gas."

A parallel oil pipeline is also part of the project, with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPN) the major partner in both assets.

According to Xinhua, the gas pipeline will be able to carry 12 billion cubic metres annually, while the crude oil pipeline has a capacity of 22 million tonnes per year.

The start of the project comes as resource-rich Myanmar shakes off decades of rule by generals who kept the country largely isolated from the rest of the world.

They did, however, maintain close economic links with China, which for years was the major foreign influence in a country that was under heavy international sanctions.

Now, with Myanmar opening up politically and economically, more countries are setting up operations and seeking deals which sanctions had prevented.

"Myanmar used to be sanctioned by the West and China was its only friend," the Global Times editorial acknowledged. "Nowadays, it has opened more to the West. This will reduce its passion in cooperating with China, but does not mean it will set itself against China."

But in a warning that Beijing expects its economic interests to be protected, the newspaper cautioned Myanmar that it must ensure agreements regarding the project are fulfilled, no matter who eventually leads the country.

"China should be determined to supervise Myanmar in doing so," the paper said. "Myanmar should hold a serious attitude toward China, and Chinese will take (the Myanmar) people's attitude toward the pipeline as a test of their stance on China."

LIVE: Meath v Tyrone, All Ireland senior football round 4 qualifier

An epic day of football concluded at Croke Park as Meath and Tyrone topped the bill at headquarters. ?Who would advance to the last eight?

As always, we?d love to hear your comments. Send them to cian.oconnell9@gmail.com, tweet them?@TheScoreGAA,?find us on Facebook, or leave a comment below.

17.51 ? Welcome to Croke Park as we commence the build up to the last of the three matches on today?s bill. ?Improving Meath certainly rattled Dublin in the Leinster decider, but they meet a Tyrone outfit that is developing nicely.? Three wins in the qualifiers over Offaly, Roscommon, and Kildare have injected Tyrone with both hope and momentum.? They hit Croke Park keen to advance to August football again.

17.57 ? Mickey Harte has made no secret about the ?real stuff? beginning on the famous Bank Holiday weekend.? Meath, though, clearly intend to be involved in the last eight too.? So it is all to play for and stay with us for the action.

18.02 ? No word of any changes yet so we currently expect the teams to line out as follows:

MEATH: Paddy O?Rourke; Donal Keogan, Kevin Reilly, Bryan Menton; Padraic Harnan, Mickey Burke, Seamus Kenny; Brian Meade, Conor Gillespie; Eamonn Wallace, Damien Carroll, Graham Reilly; Stephen Bray, Joe Sheridan, Mickey Newman.

TYRONE: Pascal McConnell; Ryan McKenna, Conor Clarke, Cathal McCarron; Ciaran McGinley, Peter Harte, Conor Gormley; Colm Cavanagh, Sean Cavanagh; Mattie Donnelly, Mark Donnelly, Joe McMahon; Darren McCurry, Stephen O?Neill, Martin Penrose.

REFEREE: Maurice Deegan (Laois).

18.05 ? Plenty of questions will be answered over the next couple of hours.? Can Meath build on a solid provincial campaign?? Are Tyrone emerging as the real deal once more?? Will the Royals be able to cope with Tyrone?s runners?? Will Eamonn Wallace?s blistering speed do damage?

18.08 ? Decent numbers from Meath and Tyrone gathering at Croker watching the end of a highly entertaining Galway versus Cork battle. ?Alan Mulholland?s Tribesmen lead by three with 22 minutes remaining.

18.16 ? Tyrone somehow nearly always manage to reinvent themselves for a qualifier journey, but they face a truly tricky test this evening. ?Meath will feel, though, that they can make the quarter finals too. ?Mick O?Dowd has been safe and sensible and his Royal panel have bought into the new regime so far.

18.21 ? The shock is on in the second match at headquarters. ?Galway three in front with 10 on the clock.

18.25 ? Cork goal in Croker. ?Extra-time a possibility ? which would impact on the start time for Meath v Tyrone.

18.31 ? There won?t be any need for extra-time here, Meath v Tyrone will start at 7. ?Cork finishing well. ?Galway just don?t have enough depth in their panel.

18.36 ? The Artane Band are out, Galway and Cork players are departing from the field. ?The warm up cones are being set up. ?Twenty five minutes to throw-in.

18.43 ? Getting a small bit nippy here. The Upper tier of the Hogan Stand can be a fridge in February or March. ?Not that bad today, but tropical it aint.

18.44 ? Meath on the pitch and now they have been joined by Tyrone, who are getting their team photograph taken. ?Will it be used in the All Ireland quarter final match programme?

18.45 ?

18.51 ? Throw-in edging closer here. ?Eight minutes away from now the battle will start. ?How will Tyrone match up with the Meath attack? ?That is one of the things we will be keeping an eye on.

18.59 ? Good Championship roar at the end of the National Anthem. ?Ready to rock at HQ.

19.01 ? Interesting here. ?Conor Gormley will be a sweeper for Tyrone. ?Joe Sheridan gone to centre forward being policed by Peter Harte. ?Match on.

19.03 ? Tyrone have Cathal McCarron on Stephen Bray. ?Padraic Harnan currently the spare man in Meath?s defence. ?Conor Gormley the Tyrone sweeper.

19.03 ? Fast and physical early on. ?Hefty collisions all over the shop.

19.05 ? No score in the first four minutes, but Meath probing. ?They have squandered two chances. ?The Royals winning lots of possession at centrefield.

19.07 ? This has the makings of a genuine tactual duel on the line. ?Most of the match ups are tasty. ?Donal Keogan is on Darren McCurry. ?Kevin Reilly on Stephen O?Neill. ?Those two carry huge importance.

19.07 ? Goal for Meath!

19.08 ? Meath 1-0 Tyrone 0-0: 7 mins ? We suggested pre match that Eamonn Wallace could have an impact here. ?He has, bursting through to blast a brilliant seventh minute goal for the Royals.

19.09 ? Meath 1-0 Tyrone 0-1: 9 mins - Darren McCurry replies with a free for Tyrone. ?That score was required.

19.11 ? Meath 1-0 Tyrone 0-2: 10 mins ? This game is moving along at a nice clip. ?Mattie Donnelly has kicked a fine point on the run for Tyrone.

19.13 ? Meath 1-1 Tyrone 0-2: 12 mins ? Mickey Newman?s free taking was a key feature for Meath in Division Three of the NFL. ?Newman is bringing that form into the summer. ?A splendid long range effort off the sod.

19.16 ? Meath 1-1 Tyrone 0-2: 15 mins ? Mickey Newman has just dragged a free wide from an acute angle, but this match has been lively.

19.18 ? Meath 1-1 Tyrone 0-3: 17 mins - The first sight of Stephen O?Neill?s class. ?O?Neill gathered a sweet Peter Harte delivery and knocked it over on the turn.

19.19 ? Meath 1-2 Tyrone 0-3: 19 mins - Mickey Newman lofts a free from a difficult angle.

19.21 ? Meath 1-2 Tyrone 0-4: 20 mins - Darren McCurry curls over a free with a delightful swing of the left boot from just under the Hogan.

19.22 ? Meath 1-2 Tyrone 0-5: 22 mins - Sean Cavanagh restores parity with a free for Tyrone.

19.24 ? For those with an interest in the statistical side of the game. ?Meath have scored 1-2 from six chances in the first quarter, Tyrone 0-5 from 7.

19.26 ? Tyrone 0-6 Meath 1-2: 24 mins ? Sean Cavanagh nails a free from a similar position near the Cusack Stand. ?Tyrone shading the last 10 minutes or so, the Cavanagh?s prompting them from the middle.

19.27 ? Tyrone 0-7 Meath 1-2: 27 mins ? Sean Cavanagh clips a third free in a row, Tyrone have hit four on the spin.

19.29 ? Tyrone 0-8 Meath 1-2: 28 mins ? Leading by example Sean Cavanagh has rifled over a superb point from play. ?Tyrone motoring smoothly now. ?Five points unanswered ? utterly dominant at the moment.

19.32 ? Want to know how hard Meath are finding it now? ?Thirteen Tyrone players inside their own half. ?Meath unable to get shots off never mind scores. ?The Royals haven?t registered from play since Eamonn Wallace?s seventh minute goal. Half-time is five minutes away.

19.33 ? Tyrone 0-9 Meath 1-3: 31 mins ? Mickey Newman landed a 45 to briefly disturb Tyrone, who had been dictating the tempo. ?Sean Cavanagh responds with another beauty from play.

19.36 ? Tyrone 0-10 Meath 1-4: 34 mins - Stephen Bray has kicked an improbable point for Meath, but Mattie Donnelly then hits one for the Red Hands.

19.38 ? Half-time Tyrone lead 0-11 to 1-4. Darren McCurry splits the uprights with a 45 to give Tyrone a deserved four point advantage at the break.

19.39 ? From 15 scoring chances Tyrone have registered 0-11. ?In the modern game, that is smashing efficiency. ?Meath have hit 1-4 from 8 and five of those have come from dead ball situations. ?Those nuggets of information simply capture how in control Tyrone have been since their somewhat shaky start.

19.42 ?

Scorers for Tyrone: Sean Cavanagh 0-5 (2fs), Darren McCurry 0-3 (2f, 145),?Mattie Donnelly 0-2, Stephen O?Neill 0-1.

Scorers for Meath: Eamonn Wallace 1-0, Mickey Newman 0-3 (2f, 145), Stephen Bray 0-1.

19.43 ?

19.45 ? So can Tyrone continue to be so clinical in the second period? ?Is there a kick in Meath? ?Old school defiance style, perhaps. Presently it is not looking good for the Royals, but they have launched Croke Park comeback missions before.

19.53 ? 32,761 - the official attendance at Croke Park for the triple header.

19.55 ? Substitution for Tyrone-Mark Donnelly replaced by Aidan Cassidy.

19.56 ? Tyrone 0-11 Meath 1-5: 36 mins - Encouraging second half start for Meath as Mickey Newman bangs over his fourth point of the evening.

19.58 ? Tyrone 0-12 Meath 1-5: 38 mins - Every time Sean Cavanagh has been asked to do something, he has just done it. ?Cavanagh has stroked over another free.

19.58 ? Penalty for Meath!

19.59 ? Goal for Meath! Mickey Newman steps up and rattles the Tyrone net.

20.01 ? Tyrone 0-12 Meath 2-5: 39 mins - It really is game on now. ?Conor Gormley fouled Seamus Kenny in the square and Mickey Newman expertly converts the resultant penalty.

20.02 ? Joe Sheridan replaced by Brian Farrell for Meath.

20.05 ? Tyrone 0-12 Meath 2-6: 45 mins ? There certainly is a kick in Meath. ?Eamonn Wallace has kicked an excellent point to restore parity. ?Suddenly Tyrone aren?t as cool and composed.

20.07 ? Tyrone 0-12 Meath 2-6: 47 mins - This match is being played at a blistering pace. ?Meath?s decent travelling contingent are enjoying the third quarter so far.

20.10 ? Tyrone 0-12 Meath 2-6: 50 mins - Tyrone craft a goal chance as substitute Aidan Cassidy releases Colm Cavanagh, who is denied by Paddy O?Rourke. ?Darren McCurry kicks the subsequent 45 wide.

20.10 ? Peadar Byrne in for Damien Carroll for Meath, Dermot Carlin replaces Ryan McKenna for Tyrone.

20.12 ? Meath 2-7 Tyrone 0-12: 52 mins ? How do Meath unearth forwards from almost nowhere? ?Eamonn Wallace continues to do damage this summer, he has now claimed 1-2 this evening. ?Pacy and polished.

20.14 ? Tyrone 0-13 Meath 2-7: 53 mins ? Replacement Aidan Cassidy puts Tyrone level again. ?Worryingly for them, though, is the fact that they only took one chance from seven in the third quarter. ?They were far slicker before the interval.

20.16 ? Tyrone 0-14 Meath 2-7: 55 mins - Sean Cavanagh is ice cool scoring a pressure free. ?Tyrone lead with 15 on the clock. ?It is delicately poised.

20.17 ? Tyrone 0-15 Meath 2-7: 57 mins ? Darren McCurry, a player regarded highly by Mickey Harte, has hit a tidy point from play, who are getting some joy up front.

20.19 ? Tyrone 0-16 Meath 2-8: 59 ?mins - Darren McCurry and Eamonn Wallace trade points as we enter the final furlong.

20.20 ?

20.22 ? Tyrone 0-16 Meath 2-9: 62 mins ? What an absorbing match this has been. ?Mickey Newman scores a free to leave the minimum between the teams.

20.25 ? Tyrone 0-16 Meath 2-9: 65 mins - This is going down to the wire. ?Martin Penrose has just been replaced by Kyle Coney. ?For Meath their great stalwart Seamus Kenny has made way for Ciaran Lenihan.

20.28 ? Tyrone 0-16 Meath 2-9: 67 mins - Meath have squandered a couple of chances to get back on terms. ?Goalkeeper Paddy O?Rourke fired a mammoth free wide and Wallace has since struck the post. ?The margins.

20.30 ? Tyrone 0-17 Meath 2-9: 70 minutes - Sean Cavanagh adds a sublime free kick to his account.

20.30 ? Tyrone?s Stephen O?Neill sent off for a second booking.

20.31 ? Three minutes additional time to be played.

20.31 ? Tyrone 0-17 Meath 2-9: 70 mins - Tyrone just need to avoid conceding a goal. ?That is their mission in the closing 90 seconds.

20.33 ? Meath winning frees in the scoring zone, but they need a goal.

20.34 ? Tyrone 0-17 Meath 2-9: Full-time. A thrilling match ends in a welter of excitement. ?The Royals are out, Tyrone in the last eight. ?Mickey Harte proving what a shrewd sideline operator he is.

20.36 ?

Scorers for Tyrone: Sean Cavanagh 0-8 (5fs), Darren McCurry 0-5 (3f, 145), Mattie Donnelly 0-2, Stephen O?Neill 0-1, Aidan Cassidy 0-1.

Scorers for Meath: Mickey Newman 1-5 (1-0 pen, 4fs, 145), Eamonn Wallace 1-3, Stephen Bray 0-1.

20.37 ? Thanks for joining us at Croke Park. ?A thoroughly enjoyable day at headquarters. ?Three matches, done and dusted. ?We will head for Thurles tomorrow for three more. ?The Irish sporting summer is alive and kicking.

Moody?s downgrades Halliburton debt, stock up on buyback deal

Moody's Investors Service has downgraded Halliburton's debt rating from stable to negative.

Although Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL) has made progress in settling some of the uncertainty related to its role in the Deepwater Horizon disaster, a share buyback deal has lead analysts at Moody?s Investors Service in New York to downgrade the company?s debt outlook to negative.

The rating followed news on Friday of the Houston oilfield services giant?s plan to buy back up to $3.3 billion of its own stock, and that Halliburton had pleaded guilty to destroying evidence in the 2010 oil spill disaster.

"The negative outlook reflects Halliburton's more aggressive financial posture evidenced by debt funded common stock repurchase activity and a higher anticipated leverage profile," said Moody?s vice president and senior analyst Michael Somogyi in a statement.

Nonetheless, at Morningstar Inc. in Chicago, analysts had a different take on the buyback ? and the markets reacted positively to the news, pushing Halliburton shares up more than 4 percent to $46 in late-afternoon trading Friday.

?We see the buyback as an attractive use of capital,? analyst Stephen Ellis said in an investors note. ?In addition, we believe the buyback illustrates Halliburton's confidence in the stability of its business going forward.?

Both analysts said there is work that remains before the Deepwater Horizon uncertainty will conclude.

"While the company has made progress in defining its liability exposure related to Macondo, there is still uncertainty surrounding the settlement of private claims stemming from the Macondo multi-district litigation," Somogyi said.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund and United Health Foundation ...

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) announced today that?$100,000?in scholarships has been awarded to seven academically deserving students at its member-schools in partnership with United Health Foundation?s Diverse Scholars Initiative.

The scholarships were announced at the fifth annual Diverse Scholars Forum, which brings more than 60 scholarship recipients to Washington, D.C., July 24-26 to celebrate the scholars and inspire them to work toward strengthening the nation?s health care system. This year?s event gives these future health care professionals the opportunity to meet and interact with members of Congress and leaders from a variety of health care fields.

?I am excited to award the seven students representing six of our member-schools,?public?Historically Black Colleges and Universities, (HBCUs), with this scholarship that will enable them to focus more on their studies and not how they are going to pay their tuition,? said TMCF President & CEO, Johnny C. Taylor, Jr.

The following TMCF-United Health Foundation Scholarship Recipients are: Symone Jordan, Bowie State University; Jessica Mack, Howard University; Nicollette Manning, Texas Southern University; Angelo Patterson, North Carolina A&T State University; Jessica Smith, Alcorn State University; Anjelica Spratley, North Carolina Central University; and Julius Unamba, Bowie State University. All seven recipients are juniors with majors in Biology, Nursing and Sports Science & Fitness Management and the average GPA for each student is a 3.52.?

According to the American Medical Association?and?Association of American Medical Colleges, the number of multicultural health professionals is disproportionately low when compared to the overall population. For example, while about 15 percent of the U.S. population is Hispanic/Latino, only 5 percent of physicians and 4 percent of registered nurses are Hispanic/Latino. About 12 percent of the population is African-American, yet only 6 percent of physicians and 5 percent of registered nurses are African-American.

Given the changing demographics in the United States and the volumes of people entering the health care system due to the Affordable Care Act, there is an even greater need for a more diverse health care workforce.

Research shows that when patients are treated by health professionals who share their language, culture and ethnicity, they are more likely to accept and adopt the medical treatment they receive1?. Increasing the diversity of health care providers will reduce the shortage of medical professionals in underserved areas, reduce inequities in academic medicine and address variables ? such as language barriers ? that make it difficult for patients to navigate the health care system.

The scholarships announced today are part of United Health Foundation?s Diverse Scholars Initiative, which has provided nearly $2 million in scholarships this year through partnerships with organizations like TMCF. The initiative aims to increase diversity in the health care workforce by supporting promising future health professionals.

?We are grateful for the opportunity to support these exceptional students in their efforts to achieve their educational goals and work to improve our health care system,? said Kate Rubin, president of United Health Foundation. ?The Diverse Scholars Initiative helps these scholars fund their education, and gives them an opportunity to learn from one another and interact with experts who are leading the way in improving patient care.?

?I am very excited about this partnership with the United Health Foundation and the impact these scholarships will have on our African-American community,? concluded Taylor.??African-Americans need a higher representation in the healthcare industry and this type of financial assistance will motivate and inspire more African-American students to enter into the healthcare profession.?

Glen Abbey easy choice for Jim Nelford's induction into Canadian Golf Hall of Fame

?

Photograph by: Rob Carr , THE CANADIAN PRESS/AP

OAKVILLE, Ont. ? The thought of returning to Glen Abbey Golf Club was Jim Nelford's dream while he lived through a nightmare.
Nelford was seriously injured in a water-skiing accident in 1985 when a boat's propeller sliced one of his arms. Although he recovered, he was never able to regain his top golfing form and eventually lost his spot on the PGA Tour.
"After I had my accident, the doctors told me I would never play the game again and I would have half a right arm," said Nelford, before being inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame on Friday. "When I was recovering, part of my recovery was trying to think positively, trying to think as positively as I could, but I had many dreams about coming back to play at the Abbey.
"If I could just come back and play the Abbey one more time and get in contention one more time, that was my dream, and it was a recurring dream."
The Vancouver native missed the cut at the 1986 Canadian Open but finished in a tie for 18th the next year.
"The first time I came back after the accident, it was too soon. It was too soon for me to be back on Tour," said Nelford. "The first six months I didn't make a cut, but the PGA Tour basically forced me to take my year as per medical extension. I didn't make a cut for six months, missing by a shot, missing by two shots, but I started to play a little bit better on the weekend."
Nelford was joined in the hall by amateur Alison Murdoch and Jack McLaughlin, honoured posthumously in the builder category.
Nelford won the Canadian amateur championship in 1975 and 1976. He turned pro in 1977, and played on the PGA Tour from 1978 to 1988, where his best finish was second at the 1983 Sea Pines Heritage Classic and at the 1984 Bing Crosby Pro-Am where he lost in a playoff with Hale Irwin.
The memories of the support of the fans at the Canadian Open have always stuck with Nelford, making the Jack Nicklaus-designed course a natural choice for his induction speech.
"Glen Abbey meant so much to me, and being able to play here and compete here and compete well at times and go through the gamut, the missing the cuts and how much it breaks your heart, and you don't know what to do," said Nelford. "You don't know whether to leave town, you don't know whether to sit in your room and cry. It meant so much every time.
"And all the friends that I've made being here and playing in front of people, this was just the spot, and at the Canadian Open this was the spot."

Apple hits three-year low in smartphone marketshare, shipment figures reveal

Fresh reports on the state of the cellphone market during Q2 2013 have blown through the barn door, and industry analysts are flaunting some fairly impressive figures. Smartphones have outsold their less-intelligent brethren for the second quarter in a row, and Strategy Analytics says shipments hit a record-breaking 237.9 million. According to IDC, Samsung managed to ship a total of 72.4 million smartphones during Q2 -- a 43.9% boost year-over-year -- with help of the Galaxy S 4 and price cuts to the GS3. To put that in perspective, that's more than double the 31.2 million iPhones Apple managed to ship, and Strategy Analytics claims this marks a three-year low in Cook and Co.'s marketshare. While LG and ZTE each occupy third and fifth place, respectively, Lenovo pushed Huawei out of the number four slot by sending out 11.3 million handsets. If you're craving for more stats, hit the break for a trio of press releases.

Boomerang for Android update brings notifications and more

Boomerang for Android update brings notifications and more

Boomerang, an email app for Gmail users came available for Android a few weeks back. The app launched with quite a bit in terms of functionality and features, however it looks like a rather welcomed update has recently arrived in the Play Store. This update brings the app to v0.8 and has taken care of various unspecified bugs and also added push notifications and more.

boomerang-for-android-540

It is always refreshing to see an update that takes care of the bugs, the bigger deal here is likely the notifications. These are off by default, but can be easily turned on by heading to the settings. For that tap the Menu icon in the upper left and scroll all the way down to the bottom. From here tap the Settings option and then the Account Settings option. Once here you will see the Notification settings page.

This is fairly simple and can either be off or on. Once turned on you have a few options to fine tune. The notification options include sound, vibrate, and light. There is also an option to have the app notify you for each new message. Another new item that has arrived with this update deals with a send-as email address. In this case, you now have the option to add an alternate.

The setup for this can also be found in the Settings and is listed as being Send From Address. The setup process here is pretty simple, just tap Add Address and proceed to type the email address and name you need listed. From here you will have the option to change the address any new messages are being sent from by using the dropdown in the From field on the new message screen.

Both of these new items are accessible from the Settings page, which brings us full-circle to the last of the changes that came along with the v0.8 update. That last item was a redesigned settings page. Simply put, those who had been using the Boomerang app will likely notice the changes, which mostly point towards the new items. With that, this seems like a fine step for the Boomerang app and we look forward to seeing what future updates will bring.
