Gov. Neil Abercrombie has announced Louise Kim McCoy is joining his administration effective immediately as Director of Communications/Press Secretary.
McCoy, who was the press secretary for Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle, left her city position Oct. 31.
McCoy will oversee the governor?s communications team and coordinate all aspects of communications for the executive branch.
?Louise will be a valuable member of our team,? Abercrombie said. ?She?s a dedicated public servant and her experience in both government and news will help strengthen our communication efforts.?
?It?s an honor to serve Governor Abercrombie and the State of Hawaii,? McCoy said. ?I look forward to being part of his team because he genuinely cares about the people of Hawaii.?
McCoy has also been the communications director for the Hawaii Department of Public Safety and an award-winning journalist. While at the city, Carlisle praised her for proposing and arranging daily news briefings during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit to prepare and inform residents about traffic and city services.
A graduate of Mililani High School, McCoy received her Bachelor?s degree in journalism from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
She began her journalism career in 1989 at KITV then moved in 1995 to KGMB where she worked for 10 years, receiving multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.
